Photo thanks to Ultimate Classic Rock The Band Was Touring, With Their 5th Album Street Survivors Being Released. At a touch over 35 minutes, Street Survivors is a quick, easy, and great listening experience. Lynyrd Skynyrd poses for a shot for their Street Survivors album. There’s really not a bad song on the album. Just as “Don’t Ask Me No Questions” floored me on Second Helping, so does Steve Gaines’ “I Know A Little” here. Favorite? Yes, but “What’s Your Name” is a strong rockin’ opener. I’ve written of a three-way race for my, until now, favorite Skynyrd song. At the request of Gaines’ widow, the flames removed from album covers for many years. The album cover featured flames behind the band. Steve Gaines had just joined the band and ignited a creative youthful energy. The best album since Second Helping, and a lingering feeling of what might’ve been. Recordings took place across various studios in Miami, Florida, Doraville, Georgia, and Muscle Shoals, Alabama from April to August 1977. We perform the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and try to bring back the look. Among the fallen, killed on impact, Ronnie Van Zant (singer/songwriter), Steve Gaines (guitar/songwriter), Cassie Gaines (Steve’s older sister/back up vocals), Dean Kilpatrick (assistant tour manager), Walter McCreary (pilot), and William Gray (co-pilot.) The rest on board survived, but all suffered serious injuries. Street Survivors is a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute band based out of the Richmond, Va area. Three days later, their chartered Convair CV-300 dropped from the sky as it ran out of fuel near Gillsburg, Mississippi.
